Event Details

Celebrate the last days of summer with an elegant ball and garden party (weather permitting!) featuring dancing to a live orchestra in one of Georgetown’s most historic and magnificent mansions (circa 1800)!

Come on your own or with friends for an exquisite evening of good company and conversation, along with delectable desserts, music, wine and dance! This is a special and rare opportunity to meet other internationally minded professionals in a delightful setting. Of course, you do not need a date to attend as the event will be attended by both singles and couples.

Take a step back in time to the exquisite setting of an elegant ball from the pages of a Jane Austen novel! Dumbarton House, one of the most magnificent mansions in Georgetown, sets the stage for your magical evening of music, food, wine and dancing that brings to life the elegance of old Europe and the charm of Federal America.

Please note that due to considerations at historic Dumbarton House the open bar of the gala will be limited to white wine, soft drinks, and juices. The open bar will be available until 11:10 PM.

We are proud to partner with Dumbarton House, for a timeless evening and the extraordinary occasion to attend a ball at one the jewels of Georgetown’s historic mansions. If you admire the Regency period of Jane Austen’s England, you will marvel in the atmosphere of America’s counterpart at Dumbarton House, built on the heights of Georgetown just as the new Republic’s Federal government was settling into Washington City. The mansion’s garden and ballroom provide the perfect setting for your summer evening.

Held in the lovely yellow Belle Vue Room, a contemporary ballroom with classical Federal elements such as Palladian-style French doors, “candlight” sconces and chandelier, the Ball will feature a live dance orchestra! If you are new to dancing, we will offer dance lessons on the waltz prior to the ball on May 18th at the Embassy of France! Expert historic dancing mistresses will also be on hand to show you dance steps during orchestra breaks during the ball!

A delightful candlelit buffet of tempting Federal-inspired desserts, summer wines and “tea punch” will be served. Take a respite from dancing by wandering with glass-in-hand to explore the nearly two acres of gardens, grounds and terraces of Dumbarton House (weather permitting!). The historic rooms and current exhibition of Dumbarton House will be open for touring showcasing the grand rooms, decorative arts, paintings, and furniture from 8:00 to 9:30pm.

:::: Dance the Night Away
You will dance to a wonderful mix of waltzes, Viennese Waltzes, as well as Federal style dances that will be shown to you during orchestra breaks.

:::: Step Back in Time
During the ball you will be able to experience the opportunity to learn a historic dance from the period by two accomplished dance mistresses who have taught or performed historic dance at the Department of State, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington's Mou<
